TFA Outlines TFA-01 Development for Canine Osteoarthritis

TFA Therapeutics, Inc. (OTCQB: RAJAF) outlined its development plan for TFA-01, prioritizing an injectable formulation of Antcin A for canine osteoarthritis. Formulation and safety studies are underway, alongside preliminary cell studies and trial preparations for a third-party canine osteoarthritis study.

TFA selected Antcin A primarily for its association with the glucocorticoid receptor (GR) pathway. A 2011 study published in Acta Pharmacologica Sinica compared five antcins in A549 cells and found that Antcin A induced GR translocation into the nucleus; the other four did not produce the same response. These findings informed TFA's selection of Antcin A as a candidate for investigating steroid-related anti-inflammatory pathways.

Subsequent third-party publications also reported changes in inflammation-related markers in immune cells and mouse models. These data support further investigation of Antcin A's anti-inflammatory potential. TFA-01's efficacy, dosing, and safety with repeated administration in canine osteoarthritis require separate evaluation through the company's development program.

The team is evaluating nanoformulations to address the challenges of delivering lipid-soluble Antcin A by injection. Formal canine osteoarthritis studies will assess pain, mobility, and tolerability to establish dosing and treatment schedules. Comparative studies with existing treatments will be planned based on results from the initial stage.

The 2011 study and subsequent publications cited here are existing third-party research, not recent TFA discoveries. These findings do not establish that TFA-01 is equivalent to steroids or has a better safety profile.
